Boating Safety Course

America’s Boating Club Lakeland, the Lakeland Sail and Power Squadron, Inc., will be presenting America’s Boating Course, in two half-day sessions on March 23 and 24, 2024. This class teaches the basics of safe boating in 8 hours of classroom instruction, and fulfills the requirements for the Florida Boater ID Card. Anyone born on or after January 1, 1988 is REQUIRED to have this card in order to operate a power boat of 10 or more horsepower in the State of Florida. It may also fulfill the requirements for boating in other states that require certification. The class will be held at Marine Supply, 995 6th Street SW, Winter Haven, FL. Check in will begin at 0745 on Saturday, and the class will begin promptly at 0800. The class will finish at approximately 1:30PM (1330hrs). Sunday’s class will begin at 0800, and should be completed by 1:30PM. There will be a 75 question, closed-book, multiple-choice exam to complete the course. Students who successfully complete the course will receive their boater ID card from the State of Florida, and may also qualify for a modest discount on their boat insurance (check with your agent). All who complete the course will also be offered the opportunity to join America’s Boating Club Lakeland, and have the opportunity for more advanced education in safe boating skills, as well as the camaraderie and other benefits that membership provides You must register in advance to take this course, so that you will have adequate time to study the student manual and state laws prior to the course dates. The registration fee is $50.00 per person. Family members willing to share the course materials may register for $10.00 for each additional registrant.
