About Us


Healthy Start is a program that offers pregnant women, infants, and young children up to age 3 with services that promote healthy pregnancies and healthy babies. Healthy Starts services are based on need, not income or insurance.



Healthy Start services, which are provided through each County Health Department in Hardee, Highlands, and Polk counties care coordination, home visiting service, breastfeeding education and support, childbirth education, parenting support, smoking cessation, psychosocial counseling, when available, nutritional counseling and other services.

The Healthy Start Coalition administers the Healthy Start Program, and has additional initiatives as well, including the MomCare Program, the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Alliance, the Fetal and Infant Mortality Review Team and Polk Safe Haven.
