SUMMARY:ENGAGE Lunch & Learn 2018: - Closed Primaries...Can you Vote?
DESCRIPTION:Do you think that we should have elections in which only 17% of voters determine a candidate for public office? Did you know this is the case? More than a million new voters have registered as non-party affiliated (NPAs) between 2004-2016. This 64% increase in non-party affiliated registered voters is unprecedented to the best of knowledge AND 40% of this increase in NPAs are millennials\, ages 18-34 years.\n\n\n\nFlorida is a closed primary election system state. This means that NPAs are excluded from voting in closed primary elections unless they register with a recognized political party within the timeframe allowed by law.\n\n\n\nJoin ENGAGE at their Lunch N Learn on April 17 to learn more from Pam Goodman\, President of Florida League of Women Voters (FLWV)\, about what FLWV is doing to research closed primaries and the effects that could have on the outcomes of elections. The research will also look into the change of Florida being a closed primary state to an open primary.andnbsp\;\n\n\n\nDon't forget\, lunch is FREE!andnbsp\;\n\nandnbsp\;
