Director of Athletic Communications

Position Summary:  The Director of Athletic Communications is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of athletic records, statistical data, media and marketing plans for the intercollegiate sports programs. The individual will be responsible for all statistical reporting to maintain compliance with the NAIA, NCCAA and Sun Conference governing bodies. The individual will be responsible for the athletic website to include design, athletic stories, statistical data, records, and history on current and past Warner University athletes, coaches and administrators. The position requires the individual to be responsible for athletic public relations with the University’s Advancement Office and outside media constituents. The position requires the ability to market the athletic program to various venues (i.e. corporate sponsors, media, prospective student-athletes). The Director of Athletic Communications is expected to affirm, model, and cultivate the Christ-centered mission of Warner University and the Athletic Department.  In addition to the aforementioned, this position maintains control and oversight of budget; as well as graduate assistants and student-workers.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct the sports information department in accordance with NAIA and NCCAA regulations, The Sun Conference, and within the Christ-centered mission of Warner University.
  • Provide a positive atmosphere that promotes a sense of community and fairness, organization, commitment, motivation, and accomplishment.
  • Effectively communicate orally, in writing, and interpersonally.
  • Develop and implement strategies for marketing to assist coaches in recruiting exceptional student-athletes to attend Warner University.
  • Keep accurate records of the following: student-athlete participation, academic and individual highlights, statistics, awards, and other general team data.
  • Maintain/Update internal and external websites as related to WU, the NAIA, NCCAA and The Sun Conference.
  • Organize tasks to ensure timely completion of projects and meet deadlines from governing bodies.
  • Maintain and collect inventory of all equipment; including developing a system to upgrade items as needed.
  • Hire, train, schedule and manage all game-day student workers and graduate assistants.
  • Attend/Assist with other Warner University events as needed.
  • Work extended days and weekends; ability to travel for athletic events by car, bus or plane.
  • Refrain from the use of profanity, obscene gestures, and illegal drugs; be a positive role model on issues of language, alcohol, tobacco, and drugs.
  • Ensure proper reporting of rosters, schedules, scores, and updates the NAIA, NCCAA and The Sun Conference.
  • Schedule transportation needs; maintain van certification through Warner University; communicate maintenance issues and maintain cleanliness of vans.
  • Attend and participate in regular department staff meetings.
  • Be intentional to set aside time for spiritual development time with sports information staff.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

Qualifications:

  • Supportive of Warner’s mission, vision and core values, commitment to a Christian lifestyle, and demonstration of character in keeping with biblical models.
  • A thorough knowledge of sports information statistical software (Presto), athletic websites (SideArm, Hometown Ticketing, etc.).
  • A thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and other marketing programs as needed.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree highly preferred or an equivalent combination of training and experience in athletic communications/sports information (statistical reporting/media experience).
  • Exceptional teamwork ability as the position necessitates working closely with coaches and students.
  • Strong motivational skills to reach deadlines.

Working Relationships:  The Director of Athletic Communications is a member of the Athletics Department and reports to the Athletic Director.

Work Schedule:  Work schedule varies greatly depending on game schedules.
