Position Summary: The Director of Campus Safety and Security is responsible for the operations of Warner University’s Safety and Security department which operates on a 24/7 basis. The Director develops, administers, and evaluates all safety and security functions, programs, and policies. This position also requires an operational awareness of best practices and national trends related to campus safety/security and legal issues and requirements impacting higher education. The Director proactively addresses safety and security concerns, implements action plans, and ensures related policies are consistently enforced. The Director will supervise personnel, and will oversee vehicle registration and parking enforcement. The Director will also ensure regular fire and safety-related inspections and drills are conducted within all University facilities. The Director will be responsible for the recommendation and implementation of safety and security related training for both students and employees of the University.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensures appropriate personnel staffing for daily routines and special events.
- Reviews, writes and recommends new policies and procedures as they may be necessary
- Serves as a liaison between the University and local emergency services regarding any necessary response to the campus.
- Responsible for all governmentally required compliance such as Clery and VAWA compliance.
- Prepares and submits the university’s annual Clery report and maintains a daily crime and fire log for public inspection as per the Clery Requirements of the U.S. Department of Education.
- May be called upon to assists in injury/accident, student conduct and Title IX investigations as needed.
- Approves and tracks all campus safety and security related incident reports.
- Creates and maintains first responder books for all campus buildings. These will include floor plans, hazmat storage areas, IT infrastructure and all fire safety equipment contained within these buildings.
- Creates and maintains Emergency Response and Lockdown manuals in each office area and classroom.
- Ensures the University maintains working relationships with local, county, and state emergency services.
- Plans and conducts emergency exercises and recommends improvements for hazard mitigation resulting from these exercises.
- Represents the University in the County EOC during a county wide emergency.
- Responsible for the management of the university’s emergency alert system and
- Works with local emergency services and University administration to create and maintain the Emergency Response Manual.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Supportive of Warner’s mission, vision and core values, commitment to a Christian lifestyle, and demonstration of character in keeping with biblical models.
- Should have 3-5 years of job-related work experience in law enforcement, higher education safety and security, and/or military experience.
- Bachelor’s degree required (A Master’s degree in Criminal Justice strongly preferred as there may be opportunity to teach in the Criminal Justice academic area).
- Ability to rely on experience, training and judgment to execute policies and procedures.
- Ability to provide vision, motivation and leadership to a team of individuals to accomplish the mission.
- Ability to demonstrate advanced communication and customer service skills
- Experience writing policies and procedures.
- Available for on call response during emergencies.
- Computer proficient in Microsoft Office Professional and Excel.
- Previous experience using Incident Reporting software is strongly preferred.
- Maintain certifications in CPR, First Aid and AED.
- Must have some knowledge Haz-Mat Operations
- Must have some knowledge OSHA General Industry standards
- Must have or obtain a valid Florida driver’s license.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
- Must pass a drug screening test.
