Systems Administrator

The Systems Administrator at Warner University is an essential member of the Information Technology Services (ITS) team and reports to the Director of IT. The Systems Administrator at Warner University enjoys a cross-trained team and flexibility to utilize his/her abilities, strengths, and passions. Together, the staff must all be forward-thinking, personable, collaborative, and creative to successfully develop and deploy solutions for the university campus.

The Systems Administrator provides management and support for university servers, networks (wired and wireless), email, phones, and related systems. In all areas, he/she must ensure the security and efficiency of ITS infrastructure and information.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deploy, update and control client software
  • Perform daily operations to maintain enterprise servers and systems
  • Work with Director of IT for coordinating system-wide updates and installing upgrades and patches for systems, servers, and desktops
  • Tier 2 helpdesk, end-user support (Windows and Mac operating systems)
  • Administers the Identity Management System involving multiple systems (Microsoft Active Directory, Google, Azure, Moodle/OpenLMS, library system, student ID system, etc.)
  • Work with vendors for integrating hardware and software into the university infrastructure
  • Manage Zoom phone/voicemail system (adds/moves/changes/voicemail)
  • Create, maintain, and control access to wireless networks
  • Perform basic network management operations at the switch level
  • Manage server software applications
  • Manage end-user software applications and permissions
  • Support and manage university-owned Apple computers and mobile devices
  • Manage security camera and door access systems with assistance of the vendor
  • Assist with classroom technology planning, deployment, use, and troubleshooting
  • Recommend policies and create procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of servers and systems
  • Provide leadership and support for the IT Systems Specialist
  • All other duties as assigned

Working Relationships:  The IT System Specialist is a member of the Information Technology team and reports to the Director of Information Technology.

Work Schedule:  Normal office hours are expected Monday through Friday. Additional hours as needed for significant department or university events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience in managing network services like DNS, DHCP, AD, Group Policy, print, and antivirus
  • Ability to rapidly master and apply new technologies and methodologies

  • Ability to pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with any or all of:
    • VMWare (vSphere, vCenter, ESXi hosts)
    • Microsoft SQL Server
    • Powershell scripting
    • Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) installation, administration, and maintenance
    • Cloud technologies (AWS, Google Cloud, etc.)
  • Certifications from CompTIA (A+, Network+, Security+), VMWare, Microsoft, or Fortinet considered a plus
